FAQ

Is Warkeys a hack?
No. The CustomKeys.txt file is perfectly legal. Blizzard only says that they personally will not support any third-party programs that modify the CustomKeys.txt. (In other words you have to come to us for help not Blizzard).

Is AutoWarkey/AutoHotkey a hack?
Blizzard can't really detect the use of AutoHotkey and even if they could, they wouldn't ban your account over it's use. This issue has come up a few times (in forum discussions) and here is what blizzard says about it: (http://www.battle.net/tou.shtml)

4. Your Use of Battle.net.
A. You are entitled to use Battle.net for your own personal use, but you shall not be entitled to
(v) use any third-party software to modify Battle.net to change game play, including, but not limited to cheats and/or hacks;

So, in the most limited sense, we are modifying the game play of Warcraft III. Blizzard does allow the use of "MouseWare" programs in tournaments that let users customize the mouse buttons.

Keep keypress button assignments: If checked, MouseWare will maintain buttons on the mouse set to keyboard key assignments. If you have a pointing device with buttons 6, 7, and 8, set to keyboard keys and you want to use them in your game or CAD application, then this box should be checked. The default setting is ON.

Since, the MouseWare program allows you to remap keyboard keys to the mouse, such as the inventory keys, it is only a small step to extend that to remapping the keyboard. Also, there are programmable keyboards out there, like the zboard for World of Warcraft. All that AutoWarkey and AutoHotkey do is use software to do what these gaming keyboards accomplish using hardware.

Another interesting fact about the healthbars: AutoWarkey uses the "[" and "]" keys to show the healthbars (as opposed to the alt key). You could see the healthbars in the same way just by placing a small weight on those keys!

The purpose of AutoWarkey should be mentioned too. Most games, especially first person shooters, allow users to customize the keyboard and mouse. However, blizzard has been notorious for not having any customization (especially the warcraft series and the diablo series, but they did get a little better with World of Warcraft). All AutoWarkey does is to give users a level a customization that they expect from other games. The inability to change the inventory keys within Warcraft III should not be viewed as intended programming design. Game play should be based purely on strategy and micromanagement, and not be based on being forced to use inconvenient hotkeys!

While using the healthbars and the inventory remapper should not be considered cheating, using other macros is a little more shady. You can make a script that will auto-cast spells or do a group of commands all with the press of a hotkey (one script can cast death coil on the 2nd hero, i.e. lich, with one key). These scripts do not really provide a real in game advantage, but blizzard may think otherwise.

When is the next release coming out?
When a new version of dota is released, an update should be available in the next 24-48 hours. If you have updates at startup enabled, you will be notified when an update is released.

I'm looking at a certain unit/building and spells/abilities/build unit icons are missing. Where are they?
Well, with such a large amount of code in the program, it's possible to miss something. If you notice an icon is wrong, just post it on the forums and let us know. We'll try to get it fixed ASAP.

Hey the icons for this spell/unit/ability is wrong? What's up?
Well, try moving around some of the spells to different boxes. Sometimes, icons get placed under each other. If you notice this, you can also try setting the button positions to default.

Hey the tips are wrong for this spell/unit. What do I do?
If you notice that a spell or unit has the wrong tip or name, then to fix it Click Set Keys to Default and then Reset Strings. If it doesn't fix it, then let us know on the forum. The mistake might be ours (HIGHLY UNLIKELY ;) ).
